The Moroccan Ambassador arrives in New York

Have you been following the journey of Abd el-Ouahed ben Messaoud ben Mohammed Anoun as he travels to New York?
The Ambassador led an embassy to London in 1600 to create trade and diplomatic links between Britain and Morocco – and is thought to have been the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Othello!
The painting hangs at our Shakespeare Institute but has travelled to New York on loan to be part of an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art where thousands more people will get to hear his story #MetTudors.
Anna Young from the University’s Cultural Collections team travelled to New York with the painting to make sure the Ambassador stayed safe on his transatlantic journey. Here you can find out more about Anna and the Ambassador’s journey to America.
