Institute for Mental Health Webinar - What works to support LGBTQ+ young people’s mental health?

On Monday 14 March 2022 Elizabeth McDermott, Professor of Mental Health & Society at The University of Birmingham delivered the Institute for Mental Health Lunchtime Webinar – What works to support LGBTQ+ young people’s mental health?: an intersectional youth-rights model.

LGBTQ+ young people have a higher risk of poor mental health in comparison to cis-gendered heterosexual young people, and they underuse mental health services and support. Despite this mental health inequality, there is a scarcity of UK research examining mental health provision for this group of young people. This seminar presents findings from the Queer Futures 2 study www.queerfutures2.co.uk that aimed to generate evidence to improve the delivery of mental health early intervention services and self-care support to LGBTQ+ young people in the UK.
