Dr Matt Nicholl on using machine learning to unlock the secrets of the Universe

Dr Matt Nicholl, Lecturer in Gravitational Wave Astronomy and Turing Fellow, explains how he is developing machine learning techniques to help scientists unlock the vast data sets generated by modern robotic telescopes. This will help scientists better understand stars and blackholes and how how all the chemical elements needed for life are made.

The University of Birmingham has welcomed 38 new Turing Fellows, appointed by the Alan Turing Institute as part of its 2021/22 cohort.
