PhD student Alice Winsor outlines her research project investigating the relationship between sleep and quality of life in children with epilepsy.
Funded by the Waterloo Foundation, the aim of this project is to understand how sleep affects and is affected by daytime function, behaviour and quality of life in children with epilepsy compared to children without epilepsy. The project also aims to provide a detailed understanding of the relative contributions of the electrophysiological aspects of epilepsy to sleep patterns. We hope the project will highlight the need to consider outcomes beyond seizure control, taking into account the available evidence provided by children with epilepsy that a good QOL depends on issues that are additional to, and often more important than, seizure control.
